The development of pharmaceutical industry of the republic is founded on scientific study. Three Research institutes are functioning in concern. 10 doctors of sciences, 35 candidates of sciences, and more than 300 scientific employees are carrying out the researches and development of industrial technology for production of medicinal preparations on the base of chemical synthesis, use of local vegetable, mineral, biological raw material and introduction them in production.

Since day of the forming of concern 120 production regulations by scientific potential are designed, research documentation for 230 preparations are prepared.

The Uzbek chemistry-pharmaceutical research institute (UzKFITI) carries out the development of medicines and substances from synthetic, vegetative and mineral raw materials. In addition the institute scientists are working on highly-effective catalysis processes and new catalysts for pharmaceutical, oil and chemical industry.

Tashkent Vaccines and Sera Research Institute (TashNIIVS),  the oldest Republic institute, founded in 1918, contributes to preventive medicine development. The institute scientists research and develop diagnostic and therapeutic-preventive medicines of a new generation: test-systems, vaccines, sera, bacteriophages, enzymes preparations.

The Oriental Medicine Research Institute in Samarqand city works on new preparations from local vegetative raw materials. The institute scientists’ developments are based on applying folk medicine experience in combination with modern pharmacology.

Research activity of concern develops toward home technology on production of known and new medicinal substances, and on their base of the different finished forms of medicinal preparations of synthetic, vegetable, animal, mineral origin.

So, in UZKFITI there are designed new original preparations: phytobalt - hepatoprotector; phensulkal, benzketozon – nonsteroid anti-inflammatory preparations; maidine, hyperhol, alceum - preparations from vegetable raw material, possessing cholagogic, coughing up and anti-inflammatory action; menyvalol - an analogue of validol.

Important part of the TashNIIVS scientific developments form the scientific studies on making new vaccines, sera, diagnostic facilities, bacteriological and biological preparations, including veterinary medicines.

In TashNIIVS there is designed the home technology of production of typhoid bacteriophage, tuberculin, immunomoduline – an immunostimulating and immunocorrecting preparation, staphylococcal vaccine, pyocyanic immunoglobuline, marginal allergens, tetanic and diphtherial toxoids.
